My name is Tracy Barnes and I am the founder of Oscars Canine Academy.

I am a qualified (CBTT), experienced and fully insured dog trainer, walker, home sitter and home boarder. I am passionate about dogs and that’s why I set up the OCA. I now have two Cocker Spaniels, (Molly), Oscar and Cooper and two cats, Grayson and Maddison.

My passion is to help people and dogs live together in unity by providing excellent, professional services designed to educate and enrich the lives of both humans and canines. From preparing for a new dog or puppy, to walking, training or dealing with behaviour issues, I am here to help you and your dog every step of the way.

I use reward based methods that are safe, scientific and ethical.

Our Mission

We want to help make you and your dog Oscar ready at our Canine Academy.

By understanding and being able to communicate with each other through body language, sign language and verbal cues, you and your dog will have a mutual respect and friendship that will go a long way while strengthening a bond between you.

At the OCA we promote safe dog training. This means it is safe for people including any vulnerable people. It is safe for the dog mentally and physically. It is safe for the animal, people and environment that the dog engages with. It means safe dogs in a safe area and being safely managed.

We offer simple yet effective enrichment ideas and products that would be easy to implement at home. We use modern and fun reward based training methods to help educate new and old dog owners on dog care, welfare and responsible ownership. This goes hand in hand with helping dogs to live successfully in our human world and can help to reduce the amount of dogs surrendered to pounds and shelters due to behavioural issues.

About

After getting my first dog that I had to take full responsibility for and had to mind on my own I fell completely head over heels in love with her. I perused down a path to gain more information on how better to understand her and to make life better and easier for both of us. This path lead me to pursue a course with accredited qualifications and a basis in the science of dog training.

I am a qualified Canine Behaviour and Training Technician (OCN Level 4) and a certified Canine first responder.

Being certified as a Canine Behaviour and Training Technician requires continuous education and collection of CPD points yearly (Continuing Professional Development). Working with animals is an ongoing adventure and proves there is always new and better ways to educate us in the most up to date training techniques and scientific research in the field of Canine Behaviour and Training. Therefore I regularly attend workshops and seminars with industry leaders, ensuring that my knowledge is constantly informed and updated.

I have now two beautiful Cocker Spaniels and totally understand the concerns that dog ownership entails. The difficulty that comes with balancing work/life – your own needs and the needs of your dog. I also know the absolute joys it brings to build and have a wonderful relationship with your best friend.

I’m committed to providing clients with a professional, discrete and trustworthy service, and I’m passionate about developing your dog’s life skills through training, exercise, enrichment and play.
